As soon as we landed, we knew that we were far from Nepal. The brand new airport and the impressive amount of tourist was a big change. Also, the capital, even with a traditional and religious presence, modernity was everywhere. New buildings, new cars, luxury, … A sort of European feeling… If temple and pictures of the king were not in every corner. The king is in every houses, restaurants, on buildings and nobody is allowed to speak about it. If you walk on a bank note, that has the picture of the king, you could go to jail! It’s also better to write this outside (we are in Tasmania) of Thailand because Internet is under inspection by the government.
Anyway, the presence of all those temple makes Bangkok very interesting culturally. But for us, as mountain bikers, it’s too crowded, too many cars, pollution, …
We did some cultural visit and try all food that were possible and took the train for a more quiet place! We enjoyed Bangkok but we were also happy to leave.
If you like big town, shopping, temple and the king, stay a few days in Bangkok!
